(VientianeTimes) Laos joins the international community to celebrate the 61th anniversary of World Meteorological Day on March 23.
This year's theme, “Climate for you”, focused on establishing meteorological networking stations to improve weather forecasts.
Deputy Prime Minister and President of National Environment Committee Asang Laoly released his message to mark the event, saying that changes in climatic conditions around the globe are causing both positive and negative effects on the livelihoods of people.

 (KPL) Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong on Monday delivered a message to mark World Water Day 2011.
The slogan of this years event on March 22 is Water for Cities: Responding to the Urban Challenge.
According to Mr Thongsing, half of the worlds population now live and work in urban areas.
Rapid population growth and migration to urban centres for employment and economic opportunities has seen big cities around the world swell in size in recent times.

The Mekong River Commission (MRC), the Government of Lao PDR (GoL), the Government of Cambodia (GoC), and the World Bank (WB) are preparing a regional project called "Mekong Integrated Water Resources Management Project or M-IWRM" to be implemented over a period of 5 years (i.e. 2011-2015).
