A seminar on the science of climate change has discussed methods of environmental conservation and management on Tuesday, aiming to encourage the relevant sectors to see the importance of environmental issues.
Relevant sectors and international organisations cooperated in raising awareness, discussing environmental management and offering resolutions to challenges based on national policy.

The village has about 340 families. About 70 percent are farmers and fishermen, supplying food for the village and Vientiane markets.
“We used to catch an average of about 100 kilos of fish per day before this happened. We could fish almost all year round,” Mr Chansy said.
The villagers are tired of eating only meat, mushrooms, bamboo and noodles, as this is what they've been eating for over 10 days.
“Now we're killing one head of cattle and selling it in the village every few days,” he said.

Natham villagers have found dead fish in neither the Nonghan lake nor the Houaykoi stream since last Wednesday, but have yet to receive permission from the authorities to catch and cook fish. The villagers stopped eating local fish two weeks ago after many dead dish were found in the lake and stream located in Pakngum district, Vientiane . On Thursday, Village Chief Phimmasone Somsanouk said the water in both the stream and the lake was no longer dark and cloudy. He said the appearance of the lake had returned to normal. |

Deputy PM visits hydropower projects |

Officials from the National Environment Committee (NEC) last week visited the Theun Hinboun hydropower expansion project in Borikhamxay province and the Nam Theun 2 hydropower project in Khammuan province. The visit to the two dams was led by Deputy Prime Minister and NEC President Asang Laoly. During the visit to the Theun Hinboun dam, Mr Asang urged officials in Borikhamxay province to step up improvement of villagers' living standards after they had been relocated to other areas. |
